Welcome to Cottage Rescue's Homepage

Cottage Rescue is a Small Animal Rescue based in Longfield, Cashel, Co Tipperary that prides itself on being a Safe Haven for any animal that is needing help in finding it's new 'forever' home and we are an independent voluntary organisation totally dependent on the goodwill of our members and the generosity of the public.

We opened our doors on the 14th of March, 2006 and became a Registered Charity in October 2006. The Rescue takes in dogs, cats, goats, horses, ponies, small animals,  wild life and we also help the public to Neuter their dogs and cats. We work closely with the local Garda and Vets which makes all our jobs much easier.

You can read more about our rescue HERE and see some pics.

In 2009

6,506 dogs were Put to Sleep in our Irish Pounds run by County Councils and also those run by the ISPCA.

That is nearly 17 dogs per day .. 365 days a year.

Over 125 dogs every week in every month in the year 2009

In County Tipperary alone!

1-2 dogs died every day .. 365 days a year

Nearly 9 dogs died every week in every month in the year 2009 in both County Tipperary C.C. run Pounds North & South.

This killing has to stop.

You as an responsible owner can stop this NEEDLESS KILLING by Neutering your dog.

Please be Responsible and Spay/Neuter Your Pet.

For more information go to our Spay/Neutering Page

The above figures are not taking into account dogs that were pts at Vets or dogs that died due to road accidents, at the hands of their owners or animals that died due to cruelty.

WHAT IT TAKE TO DO RESCUE?

A heart of gold to accept those creatures that don't measure up as "perfect" in the eyes of the rest of the world.

The people skills of a salesperson. . . to convince those that are looking for perfection that they will find it in a rescue dog if they are willing to look a little deeper.

A heart of steel to be able to say no when there just isn't any more room for just one more dog.

The knowledge that you can't save them all.

The ability to smile and speak rationally when the 10th person for the day says "I don't want this stupid dog anymore. . . Take him or I am gonna shoot him."

Some medical knowledge. . . or your rescue vet bill will be bigger than the national debt.

The fine art of fund raising. . . so your vet bill can be reduced to just under the size of the national debt.

Patience for: breeders who don't care, won't help, turn their backs and say it's not their problem.

Patience for: dogs that were incorrectly placed and come to rescue with so much excess baggage that you think they will never be adoptable.

Patience for: owners who want a quick fix.

Patience for: a world that no longer looks at life as a gift and the lives that we create as breeders as nothing short of miracles.

A sense of humour. . . because sometimes a smile on your face is the only way to hide the agony and turmoil in your heart.

A husband with housekeeping skills that are so outstanding that they could be highlighted in Good Housekeeping Magazine. . .

so you can devote your time to all the rescues and be secure in the knowledge that the local Board of Health will not condemn your house.

Personal dogs that will tolerate the never ending stream of four legged orphans, waifs and street urchins that will start arriving the moment you say. . . "I have room."

Children that like being the "token" child to socialize every dog that comes thru the door. . . being able to say "good with kids" is a real selling point.

Magician skills so you can change anything that comes thru the door, from black tri male to long tail and brown eyes, into blue merle female, good with kids, housebroke, crate trained and obedience trained.

The ability to face the paperwork head-on and deal with it. . . or someone you can send it to and say. . . "Here, do something with this mess!"

Grooming skills for those ugly ducklings waiting for their chance to be a swan. . . with a little help from you.

We have had many phone calls regarding people collecting all over Tipperary on behalf of Paws (who are also based in Co Tipperary).

Unfortunately some local people have been lead to believe that somehow Paws are connected with Cottage Rescue and that we receive some of the money collected, we would like to clarify and advise members of the public that monies collected by Paws is not shared with Cottage Rescue.

Paws use a Professional Fundraising Agency and paid Street Collectors who get up to 10% to 15% and the Professional Fundraising Agency gets 25% of all money taken in.

So if you give €1.00 to these people, the rescue is in fact only getting 60 cent out of your Euro so therefore your money does not go directly to the animals in their care.

If you donate to Cottage Rescue all money goes directly to the animals in our care as we have no paid Staff and no paid Fundraisers.

Our fund raising & flag days are manned entirely by volunteers who donate their time freely to help the  animals in our care.  We would like to thank them for their caring and generous attitude, without them we could not help so many animals in need. All monies collected by us is used to pay Vet fees, feed bills, kennel fees, stable fees for the abandoned, abused, neglected animals in County Tipperary.

Our members & volunteers are easily identifiable by our Bibs with Cottage Rescue "A Safe Haven for Animals" on the front and back and we always have a Permit from the Garda which can inspected by any member of the public who has any doubts as to their authenticity.

Remember Charity begins at home.

Support us at Cottage Rescue as we help people and animals in Cashel, Thurles, Clonmel, Cahir and Tipperary towns and all the villages in between with Cruelty Checks, taking in strays and homing of Dogs/Cats/Horses etc and we also help with financial aid with Neutering of Cats and Dogs for people on Social Welfare and we also help with vet bills while Paws do not.

Please people support us here in Cottage Rescue and remember that all collectors are supposed to have a permit on their person for that day in the area they are collecting in and if you are in doubt, please contact your local Garda Station!  who will be able to tell you if these collectors are genuine or not and if they have no permit they will ask them to leave the area.

Now is your chance to help the smaller Rescues in Ireland

that help horses in need!

Maria Wood of www.courtingthehorse.com has decided that she wants to live in the field with her horse and pony, Hazel and Pollyanne. Pollyanne was rescued over two years ago by Cottage Rescue (see her story here) and Hazel was rescued by Maria and her husband Chris 3 years ago.

Maria is doing this for many reasons...to gain some insights into the lives of horses who live in a field, to see what is like to have to adapt to another species living patterns, to connect more with them, to learn things she doesn't even know exist at the moment and to help other rescue horses who are in the care of some wonderful people....and who are waiting for new homes, veterinary care and more...

She will start her sponsored "Living in the Field" event on Tuesday 27th July at 12noon and if Maria raises €500 by 12noon on Wednesday she will stay out for another day.

She will be eating and "sleeping" in the field but the catch is that she will be sleeping according to the schedule of Hazel and Pollyanne. As much as possible she will be fitting in with their routine...which will be a challenge.

She has a Blog -- where she will be doing regular updates from the field......

Please help Maria to help the many rescued Equines of Ireland and for us the Smaller Rescues.

Thank you…

Please check out Blog here every day as it is interesting and fantastic to read
